Dr. Terri L Horton, MBA, MA, PHR, SHRM-CP, HCS
Dr. Terri Horton is a workforce futurist, skills, learning and artificial intelligence business strategist. She consults, coaches, trains and provides strategies and solutions for organizations, executives, and entrepreneurs to future-proof their brands in the artificial intelligence economy. Her unique expertise sits at the intersection of talent development, skills, learning, branding and the future of work.
She uniquely synthesizes her multidisciplinary background in learning and talent development, recruiting, branding and education to empower clients with the knowledge and strategies of what, how, where and when to learn the skills and acquire the experiences required in the AI economy, and provides training and consulting to help organizations develop AI business strategies to improve operational effectiveness and employee performance.
Dr. Horton is driven by her commitment and passion to help organizations and people reimagine the future of work, skills, learning, and careers by connecting the dots for them to adapt, compete, scale and thrive in the complex skill-based economies of today and the future. Her mantra is “The Future is Now, Your Brand is Your Power and Your Future!” She believes that the ability to thrive in the AI economy, requires resilience, relevancy and boldness.
Dr. Horton is also an educator in the University of California and California State University higher education systems where she uses her experiential style of teaching to coach students on building professional brands, skilling-up and preparing for the workforce of the future. She has served as an international visiting professor in Vietnam, taught government officials and executives from China, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea and works with Stanford University’s Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies program to provide workforce and branding solutions to organizational leaders in Africa and India. Before consulting and teaching, Dr. Horton worked for global media organizations in a variety of strategic leadership roles in marketing and advertising across television, print and online platforms. She also has a background in executive recruiting with one of the largest global staffing firms, where she recruited and placed executives and advised employers.
Dr. Horton holds a Doctorate in Education from USC focused on Organizational Change and Leadership, MA in Management, MBA in Marketing and micro-credentials in Data Analytics from Cornell University and Artificial Intelligence Business Strategy from MIT. She holds the human resource designations of PHR, SHRM-CP, HCS, and SWP. Dr. Horton is also a Forbes contributor on the topics of leadership and the future of work. She is a member of the Forbes Coaches Council, Society for Human Resource Management, Professionals in Human Resources Association, Human Capital Institute and the American Marketing Association.
My work must be connected to my purpose and values, be relevant, forward focused and make a difference in the lives of others. These values and perspectives along with my background and experiences fuel and energize the work that I do every day. I began managing people, processes and departments for large global brands at the age of 22. I held a variety of strategic roles in advertising and marketing in television, newspaper, magazines and online mediums. However, over time, I realized that I enjoyed the success of developing people as much as I enjoyed developing strategy. That epiphany was the catalyst for the launch of my consulting business more than a decade ago. As a result, today I have the privilege of connecting the dots and developing strategies around skills, learning and the future of work, that enable clients to experience the full scope and potential of their brands in the artificial intelligence economy.
